Trying to get some writing done outside today, but I keep getting distracted.

I don’t normally take photos of flowers, but we’ve had a lot of rain recently and our neighborhood is just exploding with color.
Clumps of white flowers visible on our catalpa tree I’m not sure what flower this is. Light purple blooms are visible in a clump at the top of a stalk. Another clump of buds is visible behind, waiting for its moment. Red yarrow fills the image. The color is almost fluorescent it is so bright. A few purple irises in our front yard. Water from the early rain still cling to the pedals.

We went out to the Arsenal this morning to hang out with our neighborhood bison.

A few photos from inside Denver’s Union Station.
Union Station in black and white. The sun is still up beyond the windows, but inside, lights are burning overhead. A martini sits on a tabletop. I was drawn to the way the liquid inside reflects the station around the glass. My wife and son, once again, looking like an edgy band stuck on a grueling tour. I want to listen to the album they are about to drop.

Taking photos while not having my settings right…

Just a few random pictures I haven’t shared before.
A black and white image of the front of Denver’s Union Station. It is a high angle shot, so instead of people, the bottom of the image shows patio umbrellas. From inside of a burger restaurant looking out at the courtyard in front of Union Station. It is mostly empty except for a couple of distant pedestrians. Again, this is black and white. Light bulbs, unlit, hanging in front of trees and a cloudy sky. This was taken at a brewery on St. Patrick’s Day, so it wasn’t nearly as serene and lonely as the image appears. An “alleyway” filled with seating and a couple of shops. Black and white. You can see the leasing signs up in a couple of windows.

The first step is heating the oil with peppercorns, star anise, and cinnamon sticks. Then you add the red pepper flakes.

I took a walk last night, just as the sun was going down, so I could play with a new lens. The reviews mentioned some unusual flaring. Boy, they were right!

The sun has set and the sky is giving up its light, the clouds deep grays and blues. To the left and ahead industrial buildings are lit with a few, sparse yellow lights. Ahead a pedestrian bridge stretches over a dried up riverbed. It is dark now and the lights beyond the bridge are surrounded by halos of light that make it look like they are embedded in big, glass domes. This is a trick of the lens. Another nighttime shot with big, round lights burning in the background over industrial buildings. In the foreground there is a swooping, red train sculpture to highlight the history of trains that no longer visit this space.
