essentially, a thing can only be conscious if it can drink beer with you in a bar. It’s a pretty simple test.

that’s awful, and needless. Wouldn’t you and the BBC would have had a strong defence against defamation under the Honest Opinion section of the 2013 Act?

I recall, at school in the 1970s, boys using chalk to draw swastikas on the coats of German exchange students. It was a dreadful thing to do, but there was at least a loathing of fascism rather than a nostalgia for it.

worth remembering that if you lost a loved one to Covid at the height of the pandemic you may have had little or no knowledge of how they died. It was a remote business, and comms from beleaguered hospital staff were sparse. The dead just vanished. Death certificates delayed for weeks.
