Boss passed away in 1916 and is buried with his wife, Maria, in the Spring Forest Cemetery.

Works by Boss collected dust in living rooms, attics, and antique stores around Binghamton for almost a century before Roberson Museum curators put together the first solo exhibition of his work in 1972.

Though he never saw true commercial success, he was a favorite of Binghamton businessman Alonzo Roberson:

"I am no critic, but I know when I like something. And Henry Wolcott Boss, the painter, is one of my favorites."

Boss was even hired to paint a portrait of Alonzo's prized bird dog.

Though no one knows for sure how Boss learned the techniques of the Hudson River School of Painting, interviews with relatives revealed that he was friends with D&H Railway crewmen, and likely hitched free rides to travel NYS and practice painting with students of the Hudson River School.

Henry Wolcott Boss was a Binghamton based businessman who, in 1867, disappeared from the area at age 40. When he returned three years later, he was a skilled landscape painter. 🪡 🧵

It's #NationalBikeDay! 🚲 Take a look at 'Cyclical' by Derek Chalfant, on view in the 2025 Regional Art Exhibition.

Chalfant's sculptural work is thought provoking, creating a richness of meaning with the ambiguities, enigmas, multiple layers and combinations of both form and content.

Haudenosaunee beadwork is a skilled art form that has its origin in the New York region.

The work features intricately beaded ornaments, pincushions, card holders, wall pockets, picture frames, and other keepsakes that reflect Haudenosaunee ingenuity and aesthetic.

Though a number of complete sets can be found in various collections around the world, most of the etchings were broken up and sold individually.

This piece, from Roberson’s Collection, is currently on view in the second floor Wurtz Gallery.

More than 300 sets were produced by printmaker Atelier Lacourière-Frélaut from Picasso’s completion of the suite in 1937 to 1939. However, these etchings didn’t hit the art market until the 50s due to the death of Vollard and WWII.

Commissioned by art broker Ambroise Vollard, this etching is one in a suite of 100 pieces by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso.
