For cooking, I had read that for prolonged storage in the refrigerator do something like this... lasts about 2 weeks to use them up... took a season off... green onions, shallots, and leeks...

Stella had a nose that was incredible... once I realized that I let her satisfy her curiosity and sniff all the delivered boxes... We'd go on long car trips... about 2 miles from any previous rest stop she'd perk up and smell the vents... day or night... and complain vigorously if we did not stop...
