Chalk one up for Britain’s right wing media, little-Englanders, the Cummings/Johnson/Farage lies and Putin’s trolls.

Universally damaging though the conflict may be, the pendulum of war is swinging in Ukraine’s favour.

My first thought too - Fifteenth Century Vikings?

Or hiding their identity behind masks.

Much of the damage has already been done. Trump has made it clear that he is comfortable with the concept. Whether he fully understands the geopolitical consequences is less clear. Little wonder that he finds it difficult to criticise Putin over Ukraine. Like minds and all that.

No entrepreneur who is even vaguely risk averse would consider investing in Russia. Any profitable enterprise would potentially be at risk of a hostile FSB takeover; a profitable foreign-owned enterprise especially so. The country is irredeemably corrupt.

Carlson’s interview with the unhinged Russian war hawk was a masterclass in journalistic obsequiousness. Not a single push back question.

Akhmedov was an asset to Ukraine. He will be missed. Fingers crossed his replacement proves to be equally incompetent.

Putin remains open to ending the war on Putin’s terms. That position is, indeed, well know. And Zelensky has already made his decision.
What part of that does Peskov think we don’t understand?
Oh, wait. The comment isn’t aimed at us, it’s aimed at DJT.

Someone has once again pressed the reset button in Trump’s brain and we back full circle to - It’s all Ukraine’s fault. And Zelensky’s team and international diplomats will once again have to start the process of patiently explaining the actual facts to a clearly cognitively impaired President.

No constitution, however reformed, will survive the indifference of the society it is meant to protect.

Calling out Trump’s bogus claim that Iceland is in danger of being occupied by Russian or Chinese forces.
When all his excuses have been exposed we will be left with the reality of an attempted grubby imperial land-grab.

Unfortunately “those who count” can be sacked by the author of the idiotic rhetoric, to be replaced by more compliant alternatives.

Twice.

Solly just loves to stir it. And Trump gives him plenty of material.

Some big numbers in the Russian equipment losses. Yesterday was clearly a busy day.

He still has eight weeks to try to freeze the Ukrainians into surrender. After that, he’s got nothing but more of the same old hammering at the gates with ever diminishing resources. Even a full scale mobilisation, assuming he could get away with it, wouldn’t help.

Modi was quick to express concern for Putin’s villa - an attack that never took place, but about actual Russian attacks on hospitals, not a word. And then there was the effusive over-familiar greeting of Modi and Putin when they last met. I thought at one point that they would have to get a room.

I think that ship has sailed.
January 12, 2026 at 10:58 AM
Trump is confusing alliance with dependency, and his indifference to the future of NATO is well understood.
January 12, 2026 at 10:55 AM
IF the Americans will shift from Europe? This is not a hypothetical scenario. Stop hoping that the world could be different. Stop asking questions and start producing answers, Andrius.

Weaponising the DoJ for political intimidation - just part of the downward spiral of the USA.
January 12, 2026 at 10:37 AM
Shocking I know, but Trump just makes stuff up.
January 11, 2026 at 11:31 PM
Too late. The damage has been done. Trust has been lost. The “pathetic European freeloaders” will forge their own path.
January 11, 2026 at 8:38 AM
That was basically Putin’s implicit deal with the Russian people - if you refrain from questioning my methods, I’ll provide security and make you rich.
