The President and Congress get paid because it's in the Constitution. Most other Federal workers get paid via the funding bills that are hung up.

Called by work about 1:45 am with a problem that was bigger than the staffer knew. Had to ask my boss for help implementing a fix that will hold until we can get factory support looking at the flaky widget later today. Oh, what fun, and now the cats are awake.

I had forgotten that Cyril Kornbluth's last published novella, "Two Dooms," anticipated Phillip K Dick's "The Man in the High Castle" by approximately four years with very similar theme and setting. It's worth reading.
