They are in a grocery store, at a slight angle from the camera and partially hidden by rows of boxed items on the shelf in front of them. Behind them are shelves against a wall, with lots of cans that look ready to topple over noisily at any moment. Only Phyllis's head is visible, staring straight ahead and looking stoic, her eyes hidden behind sunglasses. She wears an infamously bad blonde wig that director Billy Wilder regretted halfway through filming but was stuck with, and which he would later no-prize by explaining that it's meant to represent the character's phoniness. Walter is dressed in suit and tie, with what I want to say is a fedora, but being shamefully and inexcusably deficient on the intricacies of similar-looking 40's headgear, and in fear of being rightfully called out, I will simply label a dark hat. His head is turned slightly toward her so they can talk surreptitiously as they pretend to be strangers. The look on his face suggests that he has just realized he is at the center of a classic film noir, which are of course famous for their uncomplicated love stories and happily ever afters. The pair clearly think they are being clever, but their charade would fool absolutely no one, if anyone really cared about these two randos trying to be smooth while everyone else just wants to finish their shopping for the day so they can get home and make dinner. They will maintain this charade for approximately five seconds before descending into an animated and highly incriminating argument in the middle of this modestly crowded grocery store, in what might generously be termed stage whispers. And, oh yes, they would love to welcome you to Bluesky.
