Watching Donald Trump on a daily basis burn everything to the ground reminds me of this passage from Fahrenheit 451, a brilliant dystopian novel written in the 1950s, which I am only reading now for the first time. I'm sure it's a book he and his ilk would love to burn.

The colours in Nepal always seemed so vivid to me, drawing me in at every turn. I hope I brought some of that extraordinary colour to my novel, Gurkha, a magic realist tale set in 1914 in the mighty Himalayas of Nepal. An important part of writing the novel, Gurkha, was getting the right imagery and energy that captured the reality and mythology of the infamous Nepalese hillmen, who became soldiers in the British army. This photo was one of the early images I came across that set the story in motion. #GoodReads

During the course of the two decades I worked on Gurkha - first as a screenplay then as a novel - I came across many factual books about the Gurkhas. However, I rarely came across any novels about these Nepalese hillmen who fought alongside the British. My novel is available in paperback and ebook.

Another early development sketch by Romelle Espiritu for Gurkha, the feature film. Much of this early visualization helped make the final novel a much more vivid read. I will always be grateful for getting to work with such creative souls during the screenplay's development. #Nepal #Gurkhas
