“It’s about being full human beings and not just means to an end. I want to live in a city that honors what you’re doing when you’re not making money: time spent on the playground with a kid or visiting a sick friend…we need bread, but we need roses too.” -Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson

“This is your city…Seattle is what we make of it together,” says Seattle’s new mayor Katie Wilson

Katie Wilson sworn in as mayor of Seattle. You really love to see it. Such a great moment for our city. The right person for the job. This is our city!

One of the first speakers at Mayor Katie Wilson’s inauguration is Ifrah Abshir, who as a Rainier Beach HS student and a refugee from Somalia helped lead the way for free transit passes for students, something Wilson and the Transit Riders Union supported. Loud cheers for her.

I’m a West Coaster through and through. (Though I have always enjoyed my visits to Vermont, even in the dead of winter.)

The article notes numerous public school districts across WA use the survey. But of course MAGA Twitter is focused on us in Seattle, demanding SPS be “defunded.”

They’re also attacking the doctors behind the survey, including this person, the most normie and friendly Seattle type you can imagine

Right-wing Twitter is in full meltdown over the fact that Seattle Public Schools (and others in WA) gives a normal survey to kids that includes questions about gender identity. All the parents I know are fine with this, as long as the responses are treated with privacy protections (and they are).

Which sea level will we choose? (If we agree to @governorferguson.bsky.social’s raid on Climate Commitment Act funding, we may be choosing the higher level)

You can’t get to Snoqualmie Pass without a car. But what if we had a train that went there, like in the Alps? We used to!

Here’s more about the Snoqualmie ski train, and how we can provide transit service to the pass so people don’t have to drive to enjoy winter.

I got stuck at this particular crossing at S 320th and the new Federal Way station with my 11 year old kid over the weekend, we had to stand in the middle for at least a minute. I was amazed it was *designed* to have to walk and stand there! Madness. maps.app.goo.gl/csz1Td8zqR72...

These sections in particular resonate. Could well be describing me, growing up in Reagan-era OC. We know what conservatism is and we are absolutely determined to fight it - while Dem leaders are determined to appease it.

Took the youngest kid to ride the new Sound Transit 1 Line extension down to Federal Way. Glad it’s open, good to see some new housing being built, will be even better when more is constructed

The windows on the Amtrak Cascades are really dirty - do these ever get cleaned any more? (These are the Horizon cars, but the Talgos had the same problem yesterday.)

I couldn’t make the opening of Federal Way Link today - because I’m in Portland about to take @amtrakcascades.wsdot.wa.gov home! But I decided to make a video on Instagram for the normies as to why we need Cascadia high speed rail.

This right here. American schools are organized in ways that are antithetical to how children develop. Pediatricians have been screaming about this for years.

Parents in Seattle fought back. Only when the teachers union made adequate recess time a contract demand did SPS actually agree to it.

Even though he ran away from this site, kudos to Lakshya Jain for adjusting his priors based on data. Voters aren't angry at Dems for school closures. In fact, they recognize closures were absolutely necessary and good.

This is exactly the headline you want to see if you're Katie Wilson. There are still some voters who were anxious about her "experience." She kept saying she'd have good, experienced people as part of the team and that's exactly what she has done. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...
