You know, if I ran a newspaper’s opinion page, I wouldn’t expect my readers to fact check for me. Instead, I’d refuse to print the letters that had demonstrable lies.

(From Politico Playbook this morning.) Excellent idea, Mr. Trump, sir. You should definitely do this.

Seems legit.

Someone will respond to this in a letter to the editor and set the record straight. But doesn’t my local Baton Rouge daily have a higher obligation, i.e. to refrain from printing demonstrable lies?

Cool. I love to read books. Can I be Librarian of Congress?

Gov. Jeff Landry may wish to acknowledge that this envoy thing is just an honorary, made-up, BS thing. If he tries to pretend it’s a real job with serious responsibilities, 👇

Jeff Landry says it's all good because the US government position, which he'll hold in violation of the state's dual-officeholding law, is "volunteer."

Fun fact: Gov. Huey Long got rid of his troublesome Lt. Gov., Paul Cyr, in late 1931 by declaring the office vacant after Cyr took the oath of office as governor. Long had been elected to the Senate and had delayed taking the office. Cyr jumped the gun. 1/3

Would love to talk to some Trump supporters here in Louisiana who will be outraged after reading this story … because, you know, public corruption is so bad.

I’m at the point in my next book when I start trying to determine which photos to use. But I worry if one of the libraries’ custodians comes across this scene, they’ll wonder if I’m trying to solve a murder from the late-1930s.

If you're a Trump supporter who considers yourself to be a Christian (or a person of any faith), I would really like to understand how you can continue to admire someone who would post something like this in response to a horrible tragedy.

A visionary university leadership would hire someone far more qualified than Rousse, a mediocre leader whose only real qualification is that he's befriended the governor.
