This guy is great at this, and thank god.
Van Hollen: I should also just say, I mentioned the fake margarita, they actually wanted to have the meeting by the side of the pool in the hotel. They want to create this appearance that life was just lovely for Kilmar. Which of course is a big, fat lie.

That’s a precarious situation. By the midterms, Trump could distance himself from Musk to position himself as the hero. It’s crucial that the focus remains on BOTH aspects—his entire administration and the implications of their actions.

AS PROGRESSIVES START WORKING IN EARNEST on their midterm elections playbook, it appears that Elon Musk, not Donald Trump, will be the primary target.

History tends to repeat itself.
A nontrivial percentage of Roman emperors were killed by the Praetorian Guard.

...well, that's absolutely dreadful.
A point to consider.
This is probably the most accurate take.

Anyone could have anticipated this. It affects every agency in our federal government that has been undermined. Discarding experienced personnel is always a misguided approach and costly as well.
The Energy Department is seeking to bring back 300 to 400 nuclear energy specialists after abruptly telling hundreds of workers that their jobs were eliminated, according to two people familiar with the matter.

They give no consideration to the downstream consequences of their actions—it’s a wrecking ball mentality.
WSJ: security officials say some moves—chiefly the administration’s decision to freeze aid that helps Latin American governments take on criminal groups—could undermine the White House’s plans in the region. And, in the worst-case scenario, they could enable the gangs to expand their territory.

This perfectly captures how language is weaponized to stifle independent thought. When words lose meaning, critical thinking erodes, and all that’s left are empty slogans designed to enforce conformity.
“Authoritarians hollow out the meaning of language and reduce words to pablum. Slogans replace thoughts, and conformity becomes enforced between the boundary lines of what can and cannot be said.”

Short-sighted moves that weaken the civil service will only create more gridlock, not efficiency. Important breakdown from @annielowrey.bsky.social on the long-term consequences of Trump’s so-called reforms.
“Trump’s so-called reforms will only make it harder for the White House and the Republican Congress to enact their own policy aims, and harder for any president to get things done in the future,” @annielowrey.bsky.social discusses Trump's attacks on the civil service:

It's time for a wake-up call! We need tens of millions of American voters to step up as activists, especially when voting turnout has been a challenge. Let's rally together and make our voices heard. 🇺🇸 #ActivateTheVote #MakeADifference
The problem America has, is that we’re now going to need tens of millions of American voters to become activists—when we couldn’t even rely on those American voters to be voters.
