Happy Thanksgiving to US folks!

In the office as usual, and we’ll be doing the big meal on Sunday. But I’ve got the Mystery Science 3000 Turkey Day Marathon on.

My 13-year-old daughter has added a new technique to the irritation toolbox: the dismissive thumbs-up.

Example usage:
“Dinner is ready, come to the table.”

Dismissive thumbs-up while refusing to look up from her phone. Doesn’t budge an inch otherwise.

Like most Google projects, YouTube has mostly gotten worse over the years.

But that thing where if you bring up a band’s page it automatically shows you their upcoming concert dates? Genius. Hope whoever came up with that got a big bonus.

Trying desperately to ward off sleepiness with some morning RevCo.

Shout out to the “backup dancer” who is falling out of her shirt and is visibly high as a kite.

Goth song of the day. (I don’t always share one, but you betta believe there’s a goth song for every day.)

It’s about literal vampires, but the lyrics are pretty applicable to politicians as well.

My daughter and wife are going to the Le Sserafim K-Pop concert at Tokyo Dome tonight.

Probably the most expensive tickets I’ve ever purchased in my life. Hope my kid has a good time.

You know how everyone is catching the flu? Decided to buck the trend by coming down with my first case of Covid since 2022.

Finally down to normal human temperature levels after three days of abject misery…

Sometimes I think anime and pop culture give foreigners a weird perception of what life in Japan is like.

Other times I end up on the bus—nowhere near Akihabara—standing next to what can only be described as a pink and white Hello Kitty maid.

One of my pet peeves is being in the office and seeing a coworker with one of those fever relief strips stuck to their forehead.

No one is impressed by your work ethic! Go home, Patient Zero!

The family tooth pillow. My mother made it out of satin fabric about 40 years ago. As kids my sister and I would put a baby tooth in the pocket and in the morning we’d wake up to a dollar from the Tooth Fairy.

My parents sent it to me, so my kids got to use […]

Happy Halloween! Took the day off as it’s a special occasion for my people (middle-aged goths).

My wife is on “patrol” with the PTA moms, keeping an eye out for the creepy (occasionally knife-wielding, according to rumor) clown that has appeared for the past several years.

I’m listening to […]

This is sometimes read as "look 'AI' isn't working". But the opposite is true.

_This_ is what "AI" is _for_. Push down labor power, push down wages, make employment more insecure.

My morning commute starts with a bus stop near the elementary school. PTA moms pass by with their kids, and this week I found out they report me to my wife if I seem grumpy or unenthusiastic when returning their morning greetings.

After the latest snitch message I told my wife “TELL THEM I’M […]

Sweat pants are the popular thing in ladies’ fashion right now, apparently.

I occasionally see guys wear them out and about, but it’s not for me. I’m not amazingly dapper under the best of circumstances, but I don’t want to look like George Costanza having given up on life.
