Birthday dinner - my gift to myself - of fillet steak with homemade Béarnaise sauce, proper chips and ketchup and green beans (as much as a palate cleanser as anything else). Washed down with a big glass of a good red. Paradise

Really enjoyed #GladiatorsLive at The O2 - a proper evening’s entertainment and a old-fashioned “spectacle”

#Silksong completed. Or rather, default “Weaver Queen” ending achieved. Four others I understand to find. I did this playthrough almost entirely blind - looked literally two things up when I couldn’t work out what to do - and it’s been a brutally hard, totally mesmerising experience. 72.5 hours…

Always a pleasure to be at The Lane but my goodness we played awfully in the second half #COYS

A walk in Enfield (area around Trent Park) to make the most of this last blush of summer

Very early wake-up but worth it as I head off on my final trip of the summer to explore Montenegro. It’s been a while but I’m headed back to the Balkans! See you all in a week…

Eighth and final visit to the #bbcproms for this year and it was a good ‘un. An all-French programme culminated with Saint-Saëns’ gloriously bombastic 3rd (Organ) Symphony. The last movement, absolutely blasted out on the immense RAH organ, was pure exuberance and joy

A “bucket list” experience - hearing András Schiff playing Bach’s Art of the Fugue, music that transcends, ascends and touches something deep in the human soul. Utterly spellbinding #bbcproms this morning. A privilege to have been present

An absolute triumph of a #bbcproms by the amazing Aurora Orchestra. Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony broken down and analysed; and then performed in full, from memory. Just a stunning evening. Aurora are a must-see each year. They promise so much - and deliver

Wow. That was just… extraordinary

Back after a week of holiday, tonight the programme is just one piece - Mahler’s 3rd Symphony, the longest in the standard repertoire. 1.5 hours, six movements… let’s see what it’s like! #bbcproms

Forgettable second half but an unbelievably good first, including the peerless Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No 2, which sits as one of the crowning achievements of 20th Century classical music. The second movement may be my favourite “slow” movement of all time. Totally sublime

This is the ethnic breakdown of our young people who have attended over the last 90 days. More than 1,500 individuals from, well, EVERYWHERE! No majorities or minorities - everyone welcome, everyone playing their part in creating our community. It's a rare and precious thing - and we do it every day

Mozart and Bruckner tonight… a different angle than normal as I went with my great friend Danny #bbcproms
July 27, 2025 at 8:59 PM
Lovely pieces by Stravinsky, Strauss and a modern one by Anthony Davis tonight at #bbcproms. But the start of the show was the absolutely rip-roaring, virtuoso performance of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto by Augustin Hadelich. What an incredible talent!

Lovely Shostakovich, stunning one-handed Ravel piano concerto and then a frankly slightly meandering and underwhelming Walton symphony

It’s good to be back #bbcproms
