Depending on how you see it, you can argue this is a game bug as it can occur on Windows too under certain circumstances. In any case though, it's an example of how compatibility layers like Proton can surface hidden bugs and assumptions in Windows software. (6/6)

You can even trigger this crash on Windows by pinning the game to the E-cores manually during the game's startup. So to workaround this bug on Linux, we set Proton to pin the game to the P-cores using `taskset`, which avoids the crash. (5/6)

This is due to differences in CPU scheduling on Windows vs. Linux. Persona 5 Strikers makes the assumption that it will be automatically set to the P-cores on hybrid Intel CPUs as it was developed for Windows. On Linux, this behavior is not guaranteed, leading to unexpected results. (4/6)

It turns out the issue is in how the game's digital rights management system (DRM), Denuvo, conflicts with E-cores in hybrid Intel CPUs. But this behavior is avoided on Windows as the game is automatically pinned to P-cores. On Linux, this currently doesn't happen, leading to the crash. (3/6)

Since this is my first open-source contribution, I wanted to go into detail about my fix.

Persona 5 Strikers on hybrid Intel CPUs works fine on Windows, but crashes during the initial loading screen when run on Linux via Proton. The game runs fine on the latter on non-hybrid CPUs however. (2/6)

For background, I'm now dual booting Linux and Windows and I decided to try WSL. This is one of the things I just had to do there.
