Here’s to happiness beyond the atrocities that are happening right now.
Let’s all grab this new year by the balls and squeeze as hard as we can.
We can do it!
I believe in us!
Happy fucking New Year, everybody!

Fave tracks: “A Failure of Imagination”, “Any Other World”
The 3rd contender for album of the year, but definitely my favorite album from Seeming. I could yap for hours about what this artist means to me. There is such an intentional & direct message in all his music (cont)

Fave tracks: “Everybody Scream”, “Witch Dance”
For a woman whose music often feels uninhibited, I feel like this is probably her most uninhibited work. Listening to it with the context of why she wrote it gives it an extra layer that’s really poignant.

Fave tracks: “Burn a Miracle,” “Shatter and Burst”
Another contender for album of the year. Greyhaven’s sound is so unique, it’s raw and nasty and has a really sharp sense of melody running through it. I got to see them in concert this year and they whip ass live.

Fave tracks: “Don’t Tap That Glass/Tweakin”, “Tell Me What It Is”
This one just kinda dropped out of nowhere, it’s just a fun album you’re meant to dance to and enjoy and not worry about anything.

Fave tracks: “WRK”, “Gz”
2024 and 2025 have been banner years for hip-hop and rap I swear to God. This guy’s flow is like nothing I’ve ever heard, and you need a microscope to get to the depth of some of his bars.

Fave tracks: “Chains & Whips”, “M.T.B.T.T.F.”
Hip-hop is alive and transformed and pure and this is so close to being my album of the year. The wordplay, the lyricism, the layers, if you don’t love hip-hop after this I’ll pray for you.

Fave tracks: “Medusa’s Home”, “Porcelain Face”
This one’s an EP and not a full album, but all 5 tracks hit hard. Rivals is one of those bands that makes me feel seen in a way that’s raw and kind of scary sometimes, but they are a crazy cathartic listen.

Fave tracks: “Creature in the Black Night”, “Meet the Reaper”
Dayseeker albums are always heavy listens for one reason or another, but they’re so worth it. There’s an honesty and openness in them that feels special, Rory never holds anything back.

Fave tracks: “Caramel”, “Emergence”
It seems impossible to follow up Take Me Back to Eden but the mad lad did it. I think TMBTE is a slightly stronger album but that’s such a high bar it doesn’t detract from this one at all. They could never make me hate you ST <3

Fave tracks: “Piranha”, “Drip”
If you’re not listening to Nova Twins already why tf not. It’s fun, it’s fast, it’s heavy, there’s absolutely no one else out there doing it like these ladies. Black women invented rock so say thank you.

Fave tracks: “Perfect Soul”, “Keep Sweet”
Spiritbox has always had such a unique and seamless mix of melody & heaviness, they evoke such a dreamy feel one moment then kick your ass awake the next.
