Hmm, three crowns is very common in heraldry (e.g. University of Oxford). I don't know about Memmelsdorf but the Drei Kronen in nearby Strassgiech claims a foundation date of 1308, long before the 30 Year War. Which is not to say I believe one claim over the other.

With 19/30 of the #Spoonsfest beers now ticked, Moorhouses Quintessent is one of my stand out beers. Ovaltiney malt and the wonderful fruity, woodland flavours of the new wave English hop Harlequin.

A surprise to me – “Luftmalz” (lit. air malt), unkilned malt, wasn’t necessarily dried in the sun as I had imagined, but could be taken straight from the malting floor for immediate use. If you make your own malt, it doesn't have to be completely dried or stored.

It's a 45km round trip and the gradients look quite something. You'd definitely work off the beer.

For modern sensibilities one of the weirdest things about the 19th century is that if you went somewhere and stayed in a hotel, your name and profession would be printed in the local newspaper.
