Otter! Another one of those special Island Mere moments at RSPB #Minsmere last night - watching an otter dive after fish! Kingfishers were chasing each other across the water, great egrets and marsh harriers were active and a bittern flew in to the reeds in front of the hide #otters #birding

Finally caught up with a couple of local rare birds on the #suffolk coast yesterday, firstly to Walberswick for the singing zitting cisticola (sorry, no pics of the bird - too far away, too windy!) and then to @rspb.bsky.social Boyton Marshes for the long-staying and confiding young black stork!

Another glorious morning in paradise! We’ll be welcoming lots of visitors to the amazing @nationaltrust.org.uk Orford Ness today - and I’ll be leading a #nature walk. Our summer breeding birds are settling in so we’ll be watching from a safe distance to avoid disturbing them!

Overcast morning but silvery #suffolkcoast light breaks through the clouds and makes the water and mud glisten on the River Alde at Snape. Redshanks calling and feeding along the water’s edge

A sign that I am now officially a Suffolk birder: my copy of ‘Suffolk Birds 2023’ has arrived, thanks to the Suffolk Naturalists Society! And a very fine production it is, too - very well done to all involved! 👏👏👏👏 #suffolk #birding #birds

Good morning from a dark, drizzly Orford! It’s somehow appropriate, though, on St Lucy’s Day, as it gives me an excuse to read one of the greatest poems in the English language again: 'Tis the year's midnight, and it is the day's…’ #poetry

Yesterday evening at @rspb.bsky.social Minsmere after another day’s volunteering - whooper swans, caspian and yellow-legged gulls, male goosander & water pipit were among the wildfowl & waders on the scrape and, over the reedbed, a few of the 30+ marsh harriers roosting on the reserve this winter!
