A cross stitch I recently finished for a mate. Patterned from a wing mounted GoPro photo with lots of references from online photos. Stitch took around 400 hours over the course of 14 months. 300x169 stitches, 50,700 total. 63x36cm.

(Wish I had taken better photos of it before mailing it off). Cross stitch nearly completed. Printed design pattern.

Green mountains with cloudy blue skies over a tailings pond and piles of slate called “clwt peilio” from a nearby abandoned slate mine. Abandoned building, likely used as housing or offices for the miners, built from scrap pieces of slate by the “rubblers” who removed up to 30 tons of waste per 1 ton of slate produced. The buildings timber roof of long gone, either repurposed elsewhere or succumbed to the damn environment. The floor is made from slate but has since become overgrown by grasses which are kept short by grazing sheep. A view out the car window of the welsh countryside. Crooked rows of trees and shrubs mark the boundaries between properties across the rolling hills of grazing and farmland.

One of my dearest friends just announced her engagement to her wonderful partner! I’m so happy for the two of them, and as a gift I’m hand stitching a photo from their proposal. Nearly 200 hours spent so far, but it’s coming along well! 35,391 stitches in total. Que the Netflix recommendations!
My friend kissing her now fiancé as he kneels to give her a ring. They’re in a Brooklyn park with their golden retriever and the manhattan skyline in the background. Photo has been edited to increase contrast and colour vibrancy to help with the cross stitch patterning. An in-work cross stitch of the previous photo. The manhattan skyline is completed along with portions of the couple. The remainder of the canvas remains white with a 10x10 grid marking out the remaining portions to be completed.
