Anti-leafblower.
After five years, you can actually, finally remove a chain-link fence in a photo in Google Photos on the pixel. I'm really impressed with the results!

Adobe’s new iOS camera app created by the creator of the Google Pixel’s cameras, Mark Levoy, brings me back a decade to an underpowered DSLR.

Pics from (beta) Project Indigo are punchy & resolution is meh (most come out 9-12MP), so the result are photos you’d find in a “Summer NYC 2009” photo album

"Looking at dollars and cents, highways are a poor economic investment. They occupy nearly 25% of U.S. urban land—an area equivalent to West Virginia and valued at $4.1 trillion—yet their supposed benefits don’t justify these enormous costs."
It's time to start removing highways. For real this time
Removing highways can breath new life into cities—so why are cities so slow to actually do it?

After smelling the gasoline fumes coming from leaf-blowers & seeing the workers without masks, this is even more of a reason for local municipalities to ban them. There’s no way inhaling those fumes are good for the workers. 😞

If a public defender’s office doesn’t have the same resources as the prosecution, it’s not a true system of justice.

I truly hope his children and loved ones will have access to the support denied to others going through grief.

I can speak firsthand to how difficult being denied grief counseling by UnitedHealth has been after the loss of my dad.

I probably would’ve rushed there in pajamas…

It grosses my out when people loudly proclaim how much they want to inflict gory violence on those who do bad things (or, in the case below, anyone with a mental illness, even if they never act on it).

Same energy as the kid who’d say the depraved things they’d do to Bin Laden if they ever met him

The UK probably isn’t much worse off.

“Health, transport, housing, and private insurance account for 95% of the American advantage over the UK in living standards. […] It can be argued that the US wastes its economic advantages with ineffective spending”

Many have bemoaned the UK’s relatively low income compared to the US. This paper dives into consumption patterns in both countries to see how far this gap translates into a genuinely higher standard o...

then Photoshop's Content Aware Fill (middle),

Photoshop's AI features for generating new objects is terrible, but fixing backgrounds has taken a huge step up for digital art and touchups.

Single-payer scaling is odd. You'd expect association w patient volume.

The VA has ~1.3K health care facilities, 400K employees & serves ~10M patients, with a $270B budget.

UK's NHS has same number of facilities, 3x the employees, & serves 5x the people with a total budget 20% lower.

If new cars were capped at the hood height of a modern Honda CRV, it would save the lives of at least 500 pedestrians a year.

Now might be a good time to remember that gun laws work!

Storage laws [1-2], concealed limits [3-4], expand federal checks to local, state, mental health, & military data [5-7], waiting periods [7-9], required training [7, 9], & risk seizure laws [11] all reduce death in real-world research.

Fun fact!

A Tulane U gym prof invented two major sports, one by accident.

Clara Baer misunderstood Basketball to create a new sport, now called Netball, played across Europe.

She also invented “Newcomb Ball,” now known as Volleyball.

Are there only two genders? Of course not! But are there two binary sexes? Also no!

Sex is a bimodal continuum of male & female, according to contemporary research.

Photographic styles on the iPhone 16 are pretty fun (these are some unedited photos straight from the camera), but the UI using things like “tone” is straddling a strange middle-ground between “too confusing for casual users,” and “terms meaningless to actual photographers.”
