She/her. Crafty mom from Durham, NC.
In North Carolina, we recently expanded our Medicaid program to include graduated foster youth up to age 26! It’s not everything, but it’s something good.

I hope it’s soon! I really want to order some specialty quilting supplies from Australia.

I just assumed audiobook narrators decided on their own. Always fun to get a glimpse into the process.

Even his example is about government responsibility! Your home is within 500ft of a fire hydrant because the municipal government put it there. Homeowners aren‘t installing their own fire hydrants.

And for that matter, the fire hydrant is only useful if there are firefighters, a public good.

so now when they say "I vibed it" there's basically no longer an implicit seal of quality backing it up. You can no longer say "oh, this is Bob, he knows what he's doing"

They absolutely will, as long as they can price based on coverage restrictions or your pre-existing conditions. The problem is that system is awful for everyone.

They in fact are! They used to offer a lot of flexibility in price depending on your health, whether or not you wanted coverage for maternity or mental healthcare, your gender, and whether or not you had pre-existing conditions.

We tried this. It doesn’t end well.

Hmmm, what if we allowed insurance companies to accept lower offers from some people, perhaps based on their overall health? And maybe much higher prices to those with pre-existing conditions? We’ve definitely never tried that!!
