My immediate response to this question was "yes", but when I think about it, all of those people are historically just a bit too mentally ill (myself included) for me not to at least consider whether they've had an unexpected breakdown and started hallucinating.

What makes a cabbage dependable? It makes good financial decisions? It always shows up for its cabbage spouse emotionally? 🤔

...oh. Oh dear.

How are your body and soul doing after all that?

(Normally it's series hangover, but Infinite Jest is longer than a lot of series, so)

Book hangover is real and can be devastating

It was definitely "yeah sure".

Wow. There's a whole lot more depth to this than the usual "progressive with a conservative family" family-get-together arguments. I wish you'd got the chance to talk to him about it directly.

For bonus ancestor-connection vibes: sea lettuce fries up into an excellent snack (after rinsing well, obviously)

And now it's chill time with my feet up and a happy sleepy cat on my lap, and reflecting on how extraordinarily lucky we are.

Gardening was planting raspberry canes we got from the crop swap, and some free tomato seedlings from the local food resilience program.

Biochar burning times were assisted by our very lovely neighbour, who is excellent company.
November 1, 2025 at 9:45 AM
Crops we took to the swap were grown in our raised beds that were put together as part of food resilience workshop a few years back.

Baking was done in our new (2nd hand) cooker, installed yesterday after months without an oven, and fed to gaming friends.

I know the rules for Hobart 'burbs are that it just needs to be contained in a firepot/proper fire pit. Not sure about y'all eastern shore types but I suspect it's the same.
November 1, 2025 at 9:13 AM
Oh boy. Burning shit is usually my go-to. Firepot in the backyard...?

Ergh. I'm glad you're confident she'll come around, but that's gotta feel sucky. I'm sorry.
