I think the future sounds pretty cool. We automate to make our lives easier. But a lot of folks might just never do anything and then lose a sense of purpose.

When all of production and delivery is fully mechanised, you’ll never have to leave your house. Solar powered farming machines working by GPS, taking their crops for automated processing, then unmanned vehicles making free delivery to all houses in the area, on demand.

It’s a bit like going from Event Sourcing back to traditional “write over the existing record” database style. The collective history of events has more meaning than a record that only reflects its most recent state. Not to say all mistakes need to be recorded.
