Assistant publisher at IOP Publishing, quantum biology/computational chemistry PhD. Only here for the physics really.
Today's stress: you needed to talk more about your soft skills. Genuinely it could not be more annoying: why do they want candidates to tell about personality traits that most people have to check some boxes? 😅

Fan-girled so much seeing Dr Joclyn Bell at graduation. And she made most of her speech about Athena Swan. 😍😍

In work I was trained to present recently. In reality I've done cover teacher work, presented in university lectures (ish), presented at conferences, seminar series, etc. I'm not amazing, but all fear has long since gone. Kind of wondering if I've been underselling myself this whole time. 😂

As a causal powerlifter who usually fails deadlift in the first stage of the lift, a deficit is exactly what I need to practise to improve. But boy is it humbling. 😅

It was amazing last week to go to my late supervisor's memorial. We all know how kind he was, but not all about his work: from pioneering computational chemistry teaching, crystallography, concrete modelling, drug design, to quantum biology, etc. Rest easy Professor Brendan Howlin.

Honestly with a certain publisheron a hiring freeze, academic in the UK loosing money, and there being so much saturation in IT and data analysis, it's hard to know where to look for work in physics.
