Emotional environments act like gravity and some people don't get pulled in. Not because they’re better, but because they have:
Strong internal regulation
Low social threat sensitivity
Or structural protection. That last one is privilege.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was, "you don't need permission to do your job".

Women are often pushed and pressured to take up less space and to shrink ourselves to fit into the comfort zone of others.

At an expense to our opportunities and well being. But we shouldn't.
