Bari Weiss is set to be named the editor in chief of CBS News, the New York Post reports

Paramount Skydance is poised to name Bari Weiss as editor in chief of CBS News in the coming days — giving the hard-charging journalist unusual clout to revamp the struggling network as it also acquires her scrappy news site the Free Press, The Post has learned.

Weiss — a 41-year-old former New York Times opinion writer who has built the Free Press into a buzzworthy site with a contrarian bent — is expected to be named to the top post in a Monday announcement, although the talks are in flux and the timing could change, a source close to the situation said.

It also avoids the mealy-mouthed backtracking where the pundit gets to cover by saying “I don’t fully believe this thing I said, I was just trying to achieve this end.”

I agree and why I think Coates is correct is because Klein and other pundits are terrible prognosticators and strategists. So writing your truth is the only responsible and accurate course.

Since the Ezra & Ta-Nehisi discussion is still happening: the main point I think most are missing is that Klein is saying the role of the journalist-intellectual is to do strategic politics, whereas Coates says the role of the journalist-intellectual is to tell the truth

Esther and Delaney turned in a masterpiece here. The entire history of the meat packing industry is a vivid example but much of the story is analogous to ICE raids and labor shortages today in many industries

Really enjoyed this Articles of Interest episode on the history of zippers. IMO, this is the best clothing-related podcast. Smart, but accessible, and very engaging. New season coming Oct 22nd on how the military and outdoor industry shape what we wear.
