Because of the Trump shutdown, 143,000 Rhode Islanders could lose access to food assistance starting on November 1. Don't let political dysfunction in Washington hurt our community.

Did a Parks on the Air (POTA) activation in PVD yesterday with my brother on 20 meters. I think 31 stations activated. Got a few in Canada, fun stuff. Fun hammin' 📻📡

Made my first contact on a SkyNet repeater network for their weekly meetup, run by the Narragansett Bay Amateur Radio Club. Was pretty fun, just a bunch of nerds on the radio. Good stuff, had a few others from pretty far out.

Finally programmed my HT with the local repeaters in my area. Startin' to figure this stuff out. Next step is tryin' to make some contacts with local Hams in the area. #hamradio

I've been bummed about this very thing. Especially from established and trusted sources.
I got into tech because it’s fun to take things apart, see how they work, and put them back together — or rearrange the parts into something brand new. it definitely feels like the new ethos is “bro why bother to learn? caring about that stuff is cringe, just go FAST bro” and that bums me out

the main thing that makes me uneasy about llms is the cultural backdrop of global war on knowledge. the war on knowledge isn’t new but now it’s cheered on from tech too. tools for thought pivoted to slot machines because that’s what people want. “how things work” is buried under opaque indirections

Technician's License in the bag. Was graded by the delightful radio group WM7X. Will get my callsign sometime next week, hopefully before my first HT arrives. 📡📻

When public media disappears, so do the stories that bring us together.

With federal funding eliminated, millions may lose their last trusted source of news and connection.

6502 project has me inspired, next bit to learn is radio. Studying now (over the next few weeks) for the Technician's HAM license - then maybe some RC electronics. 🤓 📻

Got Wozmon up and running! 🍎 - with an assist from the beneater subreddit, where they found an issue with the schematic on the Max232 chip! Exciting. Going to experiment here for a bit then onto Basic!

Find it interesting that the Twitch web UI player bucks the norm in that you can resume by clicking anywhere on the screen (when in fullscreen or theatre mode), but in order to pause or re-pause you must find the small icon at the bottom of the player. 🤔 I mean, space/k for play/pause on KB at least

ACIA mostly hooked up. Still need to do the control lines so I can actually address the new chip, but gonna have to wait til next time.

Gonna start the #6502 UART module for a proper RS232 interface (so I can hook up Wozmon / Basic) this weekend.

Until then I'm starting to read some brain candy my brother recommended...the scholomance series for Naomi Novik (just a fun relaxing read hopefully):

After months of fragmented effort, I finally published the prototype omni-REPL for web frameworks and things that render DOM.

I'm very excited (and relieved) to have achieved this milestone.

I had to completely re-architect how this REPL worked 🙈

Got ROM and VIA hooked up to the 6502! Wrote a simple program that toggles the VIA portB between AA and 55 hex (lights are the binary representation). Relieved was able to get here, troubleshooting the random error I was seeing was truly daunting heh. Grateful to y'all for the suggestions!

Resolved the issue with my 6502! It was an LED in the clock module missing a resistor. Found via reddit post: www.reddit.com/r/beneater/c...

The blue LED should've had a voltage controlled output through gate, and it does indeed not burn the LED, but threw random garbage to instructions.

Ran into an issue with what I think is a mis-seated CPU on the 6502 breadboard project. Had to undo all the ROM lines (address/data). Still diagnosing. If nothing else I'm learning a lot about how to troubleshoot, but dang, hehe, rough stuff lol
July 2, 2025 at 6:46 PM
Got the ROM installed. Can now actually program the Microprocessor! More to follow.
