I made a typeface, it's called Flexflex 🔠

I've been working on this project on-and-off for many months. Very happy to finally release it!

Flexflex is a typeface that responds to spatial requirements rather than imposing them.

Abstract composition, rectangles packed recursively. White background. Black, white or yellow rectangles. Rounded corners and thin margins in between them, at all levels. Two rows of 5 A4 prints, displayed on a white wall. My artwork is on the last column, in the second row. Photo by James F MacKenzie.

Isometric cityscape. Rows of buildings in front of each other. The buildings have three possible sizes and their façades are either yellow, red, pink or blue. The roofs are white and the side facets are black. They also have square windows, either white or black.

We collaborated with @ronikaufman.bsky.social, who used p5.js to visualize our housing data. The work explores three key metrics: the relative share of housing by structure type, the share of structures built since 2015, and vacancy rates.
