Decentralization is a step towards democratization but it does NOT get us all the way, just look at what happened with cryptrocurrencies.

I think this rests on how federated platforms will monetize or maintain themselves in the long term. Web2 social media was impactful and usable right up to the moment it had to start making money and influence or die.
