Because we still live in a society which values “masculinity” more than “femininity”. I see this regularly in the gay community where gay men see their sexual preference as a market choice rather than one step in unwinding an oppressive system.

Yeah! I’m still waiting for the pay off. Having said that we’re talking about a centuries old relationship here and the US is the largest economy in the world. You can’t flip a switch on that.

I’d like to see something like the Katimavic program which was bricked decades ago. That had a voluntary military service, basic training component. Something like that I think would be good for young people and for the country. It could be incentivized with some sort of tuition voucher.
