I've been running the official image and it's quite nice. I've not had to touch nginx or worry about it at all.

One benefit is to force network traffic through another container (like Gluetun) then you can have all your slskd traffic behind a VPN and not leak your IP to other soulseek users.

Do you have a computer or other device that is powered on 24/7 such as a raspberry pi or old laptop?

If it's newer than ~2006 and has at least 512mb of ram then in theory getting docker slskd + vpn up and running is doable.
