I’m curious how this will work with longer contracts. Do players have to maintain HIP status? If Rodman signs a $2M/yr contract for five years, but falls off the HIP list, does her compensation have to be reduced?

Isn’t this going to incentivize the top European players (those who already qualify for HIP) to come here, and the top American players to go to Europe to obtain qualification? Seems like the owners will still end up paying the money, just for European players instead of American players.

Depends how much time you have. Space cools slowly, but has nearly infinite heat capacity. Given enough time, space cools things *much* more than anything/anywhere on Earth. Even stars eventually succumb to the near limitless heat capacity of space. 😉
