Wonderful @southwark.anglican.org Croydon Central deanery confirmation service at St. Mildred's church Addiscomve last night. From ages 10 to 70 plus, when God called, they joyfully said yes.

Senior Global Majority Heritage clergy hailed the selection of Bishop Sarah as Archbishop of Canterbury. Her commitment, "Hatred & racism of any kind cannot be allowed to tear us apart" resonated with delegates following recent diversity debates & the tragic anti-Jewish terror attack in Manchester.

The problem is far bigger than Jeffrey Epstein | Rebecca Solnit www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Say its name - the disease that stalks societies world-wide. Perpetrators often don't need to hide, it is so endemic. Misogyny.

We laid a wreath at the Bussa statue this morning recognising the overcoming of slavery, colonialism and imperialism

We commemorate and celebrate Emancipation Day. Here in Barbados, there will be a day of events to mark the past and to look to the present and the future. True emancipation is physical, mental, and spiritual, and we pray for the continued liberation from any form of slavery in our world.

Today, 1 August is Emancipation Day, the day when in 1834 enslavement was ‘abolished’ across the British Empire… it took a further 4 years in 1838 for ‘full freedom’.

It’s also a reminder that whilst the former slave owners were given ‘compensation’ by the British government

A commentary piece from the Guardian points out,
"The challenge for organisations that benefited directly from slavery, and colonial-era exploitation more broadly, is to ensure that their actions in the present are guided by awareness of the past."
This is the response of the Church Commissioners.

I'm glad, too, that the Church of England and the Church of Scotland have been doing similar work
rosemariemallett.bsky.social
Absolutely. There are no British institutions without links to African Chattel Enslavement. Some just don't undertake the research.
rosemariemallett.bsky.social
This is a tremendous amount of research with important conclusions for universities but also for society.
Similar to Church Commissioners' research into Transatlantic Chattel Enslavement, the harm done then and the need to understand its continuing impact.

www.bbc.com/news/article...

With the cuts to council led youth work, I am worried for youth safety and well being over the summer holiday period. Parents will be looking for well planned activities for children and young people in Croydon.
