Ugly birds but too unappreciated nevertheless. They soar and sail effortlessly, they clean up road kill and other filth, they have an oddly social life with their kind. We see them here at the first sun after a foggy morning, perched in groups on dead tree branches stretching their wings out to dry

This is right and true, in my view. But I wish this hadn’t shown up in the Gardening feed, where I like to go to escape the bad politics of the day.

Sorry so slow to reply. We do actually have some starlings. They are such bullies! But our juncos and towhees, jays and woodpeckers outnumber them.
