This means less income and more danger: torn nets, damaged boats, and constant repair costs. The local fish population also continues to decline due to overfishing, climate change, and pollution.

(1/3) In many indigenous cultures, the ocean is sacred. This is also true of coastal communities like the Ga in Ghana. 🇬🇭

A community of the Ga people lives close to Kantamanto Market and the Agbobloshie dumpsite, by Korle Lagoon – a water body that, til recently, was a sacred place for rituals. ♾️
