I’ve worked with jute before on a doormat project. The stitches were closer than this (half doubles for that).
I do agree that with a thin ply this pattern could be very interesting in jute! I would say maybe look for one that doesn’t fray/shed too much so it’s easy to pull up the big loops. 👍🏾
