I've created this starter pack, mainly because I've noticed a gap. I've added people I either know personally, or who I rate as leading voices in games studies. If anyone would like to be added or removed, simply drop me a DM, but please share this list widely! Repost appreciated

Perhaps I'm extrapolating beyond the scope of the research a bit here, but I'm led to wonder where this lack of digital skills impacts wider daily life. For e.g. how many people can book an online appointment with their dentist/GP. How many people can effectively search online for new activities?

I'm quite excited to talk at York St. John's conference on games today, where I will outline the case to support the widespread collection and preservation of games. #investigate.games

There's always another way. I'd suggest that Academic representation in students unions are a good ally in raising systemic failures of assessment. There's also an academic appeals system in most universities.

And sharing data with an online service, such as ChatGPT will almost certainly be a severe breach of ethics.

Awesome moment when I checked my published paper today and noticed it had been downloaded over 3.5k times in three months!! 🤩 #AcademicLife #AcademicSuccess #AcademicSky #ScienceSky #Research

Paper is here if you are interested: doi.org/10.46743/216...
Screenshot of a paper which has been downloaded 3565 times since December 2024. The paper is titled "Demystifying Research Paradigms: Navigating Ontology, Epistemology, and Axiology in Research" and is writtend by Lynette Pretorius from Monash University. The abstract reads: "A sound understanding of research paradigms is crucial for developing coherent and philosophically grounded research designs, particularly in the humanities and social sciences. This paper offers an accessible overview of the most common research paradigms: positivism, post-positivism, constructivism, social constructionism, interpretivism, pragmatism, and critical realism. These paradigms differ in their approaches to ontology (the nature of reality), epistemology (the nature of knowledge), and axiology (the role of values in research). The paper also discusses the methodological and ethical implications of these paradigms. Reflexivity and ethical responsibility are emphasised, where researchers must account for how their own biases and values influence their work. By exploring these paradigms and their philosophical foundations, this paper aims to help researchers identify the paradigm that best aligns with their views about the world, ultimately enabling them to coherently design studies that are methodologically sound, ethically informed, and practically relevant. This article contributes to academic discourse by offering a clear and practical guide to research paradigms, fostering a deeper understanding of the philosophical underpinnings that shape research practices across disciplines."

Thank you, I'd been looking for an examination of axiology in research for some time.

Which in turn, perpetuates a replication crisis...

I'm very pleased to share some media of a panel hosted by myself and the wonderful @florencesn.bsky.social at #iGGiCon2024 back in September last year. This panel is a great starting point to follow the contemporary discussion on preservation of games. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kme.... Please reshare

Trawling through my old #gamedesign notes and I found this ... still amazes me that there's not more writing from this perspective. I really need to come back to this an expand on it at some point.
