A major problem is their core support (and crucially local grassroots organisers) which is about the same audience as for local newspapers, and is definitely not growing and with a rosy future.

That, although I based on that poll I have high hopes for Reform getting that 27% but spread evenly across the country and winning about 50 seats with it (which is roughly what happened to the Alliance in 1987).

That said, following on from the Fawlty stuff last week, Ted and Dougal are on a short list of sitcom characters to have appeared in other things entirely (a Jack Charlton tribute on Gay Byrne's 'Late Late Show').
