A House of Dynamite was amazing — the broad online audience have been frustrated by it because they’re solely expecting a ‘realistic’ thriller. Bigelow is an artist

I love how trolls on bsky are literally just middle of the road people saying beige centrist talking points. It pleases me that people find that offensive here

Playing DOOM 2016 for the first time, about ten hours in, one of the best games I’ve played in years. HOWEVER it doesn’t have that sickly liminal space feel of the original — that early 90s fps thing FELT like *doom*

As a tenant dealing with landlords for 20 years, I've never once met one who didn't turn out to be truly thick. Like embarrassingly dim. Every single one. They want to cut corners at our expense, obviously, they're money hoarding husks of people, but they're so fucking stupid at it.

“You don’t make the fish, you catch the fish,” he explained patiently. “Now you can cook it in a good way or a bad way, but that’s as far as it goes.”

I miss David Lynch.

A big thing for me when I was learning to make films was the David Lynch quote about how in music we don’t require everything explained, and yet in films we expect neat bows in everything. His genius was based on simple principles like that, and he cracked the potential of mainstream art wide open.

It’s weird how all film reviews on here about new big films like Sonic 3 and Nosferatu are just vague Generally Positive Comments. I mean that’s cool that everyone seems to feel generally positive about films they saw, but weird that I never see anyone with like.. opinions?

1. Hello everyone, Happy New Year. I’m back from a lovely time, though now stricken by a nasty bug.
Right, back to it:
In my catch-up reading, there are several articles about the “collapse of democracy”. Was 2024 the year in which it began to die? But NONE of them seeks to define democracy. 🧵

It’s funny right wingers bleating on about Hollywood indoctrinating kids because if that were true then Hollywood wouldn’t exist. Execs know the messaging in their products doesn’t matter and that most of those kids will grow up to defend the shareholders with their lives

Watching Flushed Away for the first time and it’s fabulous! Totally skipped it on release (CGI Aardman, yuck - Pixar was in its heyday), it is quintessential Aardman. Charming, endlessly inventive, Hugh Jackman playing neurotic, screaming slugs.. Easily up there with Chicken Run.

There’s a theory about sleep in evolutionary biology that part of the reason why we’ve never evolved ‘out of’ sleeping is because time spent sleeping is time safely tucked away from predators so from an evolutionary biology perspective killing yourself is actually pretty smart

The American pronunciation of Notre-Dame is fucking ludicrous. Noter Daym. But then they go all in on the French bullshit with ‘fillet’ and in the UK we say fillit. Just throwing away any fancy sophisticated European credentials and for what
