This quote was (mis-)attributed to Twain in 1975, but it seems that Blaise Pascal deserves the credit.

This group of UK-based LGBTQIA+ and allied members of the UK mathematics community is self-organising to support mathematicians, and have a pun in their name, so are likely of interest to many peeps I know here!

Congratulations Hayley, that's brilliant news!

PS In section 3.1 where it says "very poor performance with a KGE = 0.97", that's a post-proof typesetting error which we've asked the journal to fix. It should be KGE = -0.97

We demonstrate that our model simulates the space–time variability of IGF and closes the mass balance within the topographic catchment boundaries consistent with observations.

New paper alert:
"Application of a parsimonious large-scale distributed groundwater flow model to quantify inter-catchment groundwater flow"
Led by Shams Rahman, with contributions from Francesca Pianosi, Thorsten Wagener, @sub-heterogenty.bsky.social and me.

Long-term average IGF (colourmap) across the topographic boundaries of the Kennet and Pang superimposed on the average groundwater head (grey map) simulated by SOIL-PALADIGM. The red arrows (length scaled by the magnitude of IGF) show the direction of groundwater flow.

I've just spent a month back in New Zealand. Such a pleasure to see Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki again 🥰
I've had a great time with family, saw a few friends, dropped in at NIWA (now ESNZ) for a day, and took some time out for myself 😁

Okay, I'm having trouble finding reviewers for an article on river morphology and its impacts. Lots declined and 1 late 21 days. Can anybody suggest a reviewer or volunteer to review? #AcademicSky #GeoSky

I found some ancient history today, on an old backup disk.
3 hours of video of me in 2006 teaching an "Introduction to Hydrology" course to my NIWA colleagues. Fascinating window into the past. If I can figure out how to convert the VLC files to mp4, I'll stick it on YouTube.

I just published Version 1.6. The main update is that the source data for CAMELS-AUS was upgraded to CAMELS-AUS v2. This means more basins (561 vs 222) and more recent streamflow data (2022 vs 2014).
