this has been my mentality too honestly
vgen does have a lot of nifty features to justify the 5% cut on top of processing fees, but I feel like kofi does the job just fine (file attachment, basic messaging system, etc.)
that way you can spend that 5% they don't take on a yummy burger 🍔
