Overhead view of the black plastic cap atop a 500ml bottle of Listerine mouthwash. The cap is sealed in a clear plastic wrap that repeatedly displays the product name in white print. Sharp-eyed observers may spot the contoured symbol in the center of the black cap indicating that the cap has a child-proof design that requires one to pinch the sides before turning in order to open it. If you've recently encountered a child with bad breath, this cap may be the reason why. Thank goodness the Powers That Be haven't yet mandated child-proof packaging for toilet paper! (PS - This cap measures 1.25" in diameter. That's the same size as the locket I shared yesterday. And yet I've *never* considered wearing a Listerine cap on a chain around my neck. Odd, isn't it?)

Front view of a metal locket with what appears to be a raised cartoonish ladybug in the center. About 1.25" in diameter. The textured metal has a bronze hue and is somewhat magnetic. I bought it about a year ago for $2.45 just because it was one of the odder round things I've found. Perhaps I will donate it to the Smithsonian someday if I live that long. Inside view of the metal locket. Oddly enough, it also measures 1.25" in diameter. The outer ring has a copper hue to it. If it ever held a picture that picture is now long gone and I have no idea what it might have been. It pleases me to imagine that it was the picture of a freshly coiffed aardvark. Back view of the locket. It bears an uncanny resemblance to the front view without the ladybug. Is this a coincidence or part of some plan? I guess we'll never know.... Inside view of the locket with a photo of President James Garfield inserted. He was a man's man and a woman's husband, more or less in that order. If his doctors hadn't killed him with their gross ineptitude, he might still be president today.

Top view of a 2.25-ounce plastic bottle of green sugar sprinkles. The opening is about 1" in diameter. This is not the photo I planned on sharing today but my snow-weary eyes demanded something green. Sometimes you just have to put your own plans aside and cater to the eyes. "Happy eyes – happy life!" as they say. Betty Crocker brand sprinkles. But lest you think that's some sort of endorsement or advertisement let me say that I'm plagued by the nagging suspicion that someone, somewhere at this very moment is enjoying another brand of sugar sprinkles that are brighter, sweeter, and sprinklier. I try very hard to be happy with what I've got – after all, there are many people in this world with no green sugar sprinkles at all – but… well… I can't help but wonder what it would be like to have the best possible green sugar sprinkles on my tongue and know it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Ah, well… I shall have to settle for knowing that I have the best possible haunted medicine cabinet and let it go at that.

Faded Glory metal snap button on a small brown winter coat I've had for maybe 20 years. The coat is marked "expedition series/rugged outerwear" - which seems to be rather overdoing it for something I put on just to go out and fill my bird feeders and run the trash down to the curb. The button is 0.75" in diameter. It is one of five that keep the front closed. There are two others on each of the side pocket flaps and one more on each of the cuffs – so a total of eleven. Except that one of those on the front left pocket has disappeared, leaving only a stud behind. If you find it, please let me know. (The coat was allegedly made in Korea, so maybe start your search there and work your way east. Thanks!)

White plastic sprinkler head that attaches to a green plastic watering can. This head measures 3" in diameter; the watering can holds 2 gallons. I count 53 holes - and every one of them is waiting for spring to come so they can get to work again. If winter drags on for more than 6 weeks here maybe I'll use those holes to dispense gin instead.

The round lid to a Cavallini & Co. cardboard tube puzzle container. The lid is mostly round with white lettering and graphics. It measures 4.75" in diameter. The lettering lets the buyer know that the puzzle inside consists of 1000 pieces depicting vintage cats and kittens. The tube stands 10" high. I've made the puzzle once so far. It was kinda hard. Next time I'm gonna try doing it picture side up.

One of the black plastic back wheels on my RIDGID shop vac (model #WD40700). About 5.5" in diameter. The vac holds 4 gallons of debris and is powered by a 5-horsepower motor (though you'd never know it from just looking at the wheel). FYI: Wheels make every cleaning job fun! And not just because they're round - but it helps. A lot. Whoever is the first to sell dust rags with wheels is gonna make a fortune - especially if the dust rags are also round. Mark my words!

Small strainer. Silvery wire mesh with white plastic rim (and a handle to the right that I edited out as an outrageous distraction from the beauty of the roundness). About 3" in diameter. I've been told it can be used as an emergency dream catcher. I shall put that claim to the test tonight!

A circle of seven brass bolts with tan fiberboard washers. The washers measure half an inch in diameter. The bolts are a bit longer than half an inch. For over thirty years they held together the housing of the dining room ceiling fan that I took down in December. I've previously posted photos of the round housing and the round motor it contained. I have a few more photos of round remnants to share – making this fan a true mother lode of roundness. These bolts were of course essential elements. I hope they're enjoying their well-earned retirement. It's hard to tell. They seem to be spending all their time in front of the TV - probably because that's where I put them. Silly bolts. So strong – but utterly lacking in motivation. Is this why so few novels have had bolts as their main characters? Discuss.

Mini LED disco ball light. About 2" in diameter. Plug it in, charge it up, put it wherever you want, turn out the lights, pull the curtains, and enjoy! Flashes red, green, blue/purple, and white in time to any music you have playing - or can be set to display a steady-state single color. Eating my morning bowl of cereal has become MUCH more exciting since I got it!

Cranberry-scented votive candle in clear glass holder. About 2.5" in diameter. It really does have a cranberry scent - so much so that I'm amazed I haven't accidentally eaten it yet. I've since locked it away in a cabinet to reduce the odds of that accident happening (even though I think I paid extra so that my homeowner's insurance covers this).

Top view of the green metal lid to a 0.26 ounce glass jar of Simply Organic dried and chopped parsley. If you look closely you can see "parsley" spelled out in silver in the center of the lid. (Look under the stylized parsley leaf, also in silver.) I like parsley but I like green even more - especially after looking at mounds of white snow for a week now. (Next January I'll see if I can find a magic spell that produces mounds of parsley and just a small jar of snow!)

One red round paper clip. About 0.75" in diameter. Made and sold by JAM Paper & Envelope company as paper cloops. I got a box of 50 for about $10. Is 20 cents per cloop too much to pay when I could have bought 100 regular red paper clips for just $8 (8 cents a clip)? Of course not. I mean, they're ROUND!! Enough said. (Except... maybe I should have ordered the blue ones instead? Or the green??)

It's about 7.5" in diameter and will never be mistaken for an actual Tiffany lampshade. Collectible milk cap from the McCloskey Bros. dairy farm in Dayton, Ohio. About 1.5" in diameter. I guess this is what they used to seal the top of a full milk bottle back in the days when a milkman delivered milk to residences. That pretty much stopped in my town in about the mid-1960s, so this top is probably at least 60 years old. I paid about a dollar for it. Was that a good deal? I don't know - and I'm too entranced now by the roundness to find out!

A mug of hot chocolate. The mug (or coffee cup, if you prefer) is 3.5" in diameter and is part of a set of dishes marked Country Blue - Stonehenge Oven-to-Tableware - Midwinter (a member of the Wedgwood Group). Allegedly made in England. The hot chocolate is actually fat-free milk with a tablespoon of Hershey's syrup thrown in. And because no mug (or cup) of hot chocolate is complete without marshmallows, I've thrown three pastel mini-marshmallows on top. Mmmmmmmm - time to go make more!

Bottom view of a fire extinguisher made by Kidde. This extremely red base is about 3.25" in diameter. I assume that the 2015 in the center denotes the year it was made. The extinguisher stands about 14" tall and (according to the label on the side) weighs 3.5 lbs. Fortunately, I've never had to use it. I think it might have been recalled at some point because of some problem but I never bothered to return it. I also vaguely seem to remember that the foam these "Good For All Fires" type of extinguishers use is toxic and difficult to clean up. True? Is yet one more thing meant to protect us actually hurting us instead? At this point I'd be shocked if the answer was either yes *or* no!

A very cold, very snowy night here. A good time to revisit this garden art project that I purchased at a local arts festival maybe 10 years ago. It consists of a clear cut glass bowl (11" wide) and a smaller orange and yellow glass dish with raised scalloped sides. The bottom of the smaller dish has been cemented onto the center of the larger bowl. A pale green plastic Tinker Toy-like wheel (unseen) has been cemented onto the back of the clear bowl. This green wheel has a hole in its rim into which a 3-foot long, dark green metal rod fits. Once the other end of the rod is driven into the ground the glassware stands up perpendicular to the ground and looks like a blooming flower. I had hoped that it might attract crystal bees, but no. I nonetheless look forward to spring and the day when I can put it outside again. Who knows? Maybe the green rod will put out runners and new glass flowers will start popping up all over my yard!

The business end of a black rubber mallet. About 2.25" in diameter (though it seems much bigger than that when I accidentally hit a finger with it). I use this mallet mainly in the garden to drive stakes into the ground. When I first got it, however, I used it mainly to get rid of my opponents' houses and hotels while they weren't looking when we played Monopoly. That became unnecessary about 10 years ago when we rewrote the rules so that everyone paid a 50% tax on all profits so The Monopoly Social Service Agency could offer rent subsidies to those players who were a bit down on their luck. This made the game last almost forever, of course, but we really didn't mind after we put a disco in where the jail had been.

Overhead view of my kitchen sink drain. It happens to be a double sink. This is the drain on the right. It's about 4.5" in diameter and quite silvery in appearance. It's made my sink MUCH easier to use since I put it in. Not that I can take credit for coming up with that idea (which I believe originated with Thomas Edison - or maybe Bing Crosby). Sometimes I just stand over it, cocking an ear and waiting for Voices From The Void to tell me something interesting. Alas, nothing so far. It's like waiting for something good to come out of the mouth of Rep. Jim Jordan. *Sigh*

Vintage salad or fruit plate. About 6.25" in diameter. I acquired it many years ago at a garage sale. It was one piece in a box of many different pieces. The woman running the sale wanted $5 for the whole box. She reluctantly settled for $3, apparently because it was the end of a long, hot day and no other buyers were in sight. I felt a bit badly about this, like I may have taken advantage of her, but in the end perhaps I was the one who had been taken advantage of. When I got the box home I discovered that every other piece in the box was badly cracked, broken, or chipped. This was the only piece I ended up not throwing out. I've kept it all these years mainly as a reminder to myself to always examine what I'm buying BEFORE I buy it. Bottom of the plate (with maker's stamp). A bit of online research has revealed that Belva China was made by Liverpool, Ohio artist Kenneth P. Beattie for the Taylor, Smith & Taylor Co. A highly stylized "TST" is in the center of the upper part of the mark. "PTD 1926" means it was made in 1926. In fact, it seems to have been unveiled in Pittsburgh exactly 100 years ago this month. Alas, it wasn't a very popular design and was discontinued before 1930. Although it's considered a rare find these days, rare doesn't mean valuable. Looks like I'd be lucky to get $10 for it. Oh, well. It's still neat to own something that's so old. And who knows? Maybe I'll get $20 if I keep it another 100 years.
