I personally have a subscription to the Atlantic but it is one of the few magazines that is not available in our city’s public library, either online or in-house.
I’m an Atlantic subscriber but I find it disappointing that for those people who save money by using libraries that the Atlantic is not one of the 6000 magazines that are available through our online library here in Anchorage. Is that a decision made by the Atlantic?

I received both my BS in Physics and my MD from the University of Illinois (at Urbana and Chicago, resp) and even after almost fifty years I still have good memories of the experience. I’d rank the U of I higher than 36th.
Isn’t it more correctly described as the unitary Republican executive doctrine? Put a Democrat in the White House and it won’t be long before the Supreme Court and the conservative establishment abandon that principle.

What’s more important for Democrats if they get back in power: 1) Using these same tools against Republicans or 2) Enacting laws so the power of government can’t be abused again by an authoritarian like Trump? (Maybe 1 first, then 2?)

If fair and free democracy survives the next 3 years, and that is a big if, we must make whatever changes we can in the law and (if even possible) in the Constitution so that we never again have an administration like this one.

Isn’t the point that to win in local elections you need people that reflect the feelings of the people in that locality. Mandami may be a good candidate for New York City but you need a different type of Democratic candidate for Iowa.
We know that’s true because Trump’s white working class voters still support him even as he boasts about raising taxes on the things they buy. The media doesn’t want to admit it, but they love him because he hates the people they hate (mostly those with darker skin color).
Nevertheless, it is surprising that even back then, when asked if protecting American democracy was important, so many people apparently said “No, not so much”.
The Alaska reference is also pertinent because we have an internationally famous dog sled race, the Iditarod, which honors the effort in 1925 to use dog sleds to deliver a diphtheria vaccine to Nome.
