Tom “The Devil” Homan seems low energy in this interview, which is not his norm. I think it’s because he knows he’s lying: he knows that some of the people on the flights are not gang members. He says trust ICE? ICE put the non-gang members on the flights in the first place!

Indeed, so we’re both right! 😃

Moreover, it reflects that vocabulary is frequently debated vociferously. Like authoritarianism v. fascism!

3/ While it is impossible to know what influenced laypersons and the media to shift to CC rather than GW, I would contend the Lutz memo was the main reason. But reasonable people can disagree on this.

2/ Bush Administration jettisoned their use of GW for CC, based on the advice of Frank Lutz, a Republican consultant. See link to NY Times article.

5/ or dictator rather than Hitler or like Hitler (although to be fair, at weak moments I call Trump the mad king). At any rate, everyone’s view on this are valid, no matter what side you take. We all recognize that we are in big trouble.

4/ Same with the political crisis we currently face. I believe that authoritarianism is preferable to fascism, because fascism is so connected to Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco. So to me, authoritarianism is more precise to describe this American moment. Similarly, I prefer calling Trump an autocrat

3/ And every one uses CC now. Now I cannot prove that using CC instead of GW was one of many factors in why the international community has done little to mitigate and adapt to GW. But I think it was a factor.

2/ than anything else, because only the collective of views really matter. But vocabulary matters. Take “climate change” and “global warming.” There is evidence that a Republican consultant steered the conversation to use CC rather than GW because it sounded less scary, and might deter policy.

1/ “Berates” in my opinion may be the wrong word.
He may vehemently contend (as I do) that certain words are more precise and less easy to mock for the existential crisis that we all agree has arrived (with some disagreement perhaps on when it arrived). Ultimately this is more of an academic debate
