my rules to experiencing live music at bars, clubs, parks, stadiums, and theaters
Live Music Guidelines 1. Ideally I go with friends with similar tastes to the performing artist/band and will also enjoy the event 2. If I can't find any friends to go with, l'll just go myself. would rather experience it alone than not at all. I realize as a man that is easier to do; an unfortunate reality 3. The last thing I want to do is force a friend to join me who may not like the music and vibe. because that will ruin the moment for both of us 4. I occasionally drink alcohol inside the venue. drinks are $$$, make you run to the restroom during the set, and are not required to enjoy the show. but I'll buy food and drinks sometimes to support the venues 5. Always bring musician's earplugs. venues typically set the loudness to 95-100 decibels to vibrate your body and (try to) prevent people from talking during the sets. the earplugs will simply lower the volume but preserve the physicality of the sound

Music Discourse Shower Thoughts 1. “Good” taste and “bad” taste do not exist; wide and narrow tastes exist, but most listeners fall somewhere in between. We all have different ears and life experiences 2. No genre is “dead.” Exploring new music is just as important as exploring old music, and vice versa 3. Zero correlation between how popular a song is and how good it is. Goes both ways 4. What we listen with influences what we like and will like. Good sound quality is affordable 5. Best music streaming service does not exist. Choose what fits your preferences the most 6. Tying our identity to the music we consume is optional 7. Avoid forming an opinion on something that hasn’t been listened to 8. Albums are short stories. Either put yourself in the artist’s shoes or listen passively 9. Artists cultivate their fans, but are not beholden to them. Fanbases do not define artists 10. The most important music awards are your personal awards 11. Avoid listening to a single artist only
