I just find it hard to understand why they didn't plan on using DH from the beginning. It was touted for being a new TTRPG that would directly compete with D&D. That seems like bad business practice. And Brennan would just increase that profile even more.

It still doesn't make sense to me. Wouldn't you, as a company, be anticipating that you're going to use your proprietary game? Isn't that the entire point of releasing an in-house game?
