New preprint by Ruiwen Hu @microbialcookie.bsky.social! We show that carbon oxidation state shapes carbon degradation in rice paddy sediments. Negative NOSC = slower degradation, more methane, and more syntrophs & methanogens but fewer fermenters. Genomes reflect thermodynamic preferences.

The Coral Reef and Ocean Health Research Group at the Harte Research Institute (HRI) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to advance our understanding of coral reef resilience and health.

Happy to bring this project to print after all the hard work of @marenziegler.bsky.social @reefgenomics.bsky.social and our other coauthors!

Our new work in Environmental Microbiology on Symbiodiniaceae diversity between reef habitats and across the coral holobiont. Sediment, seawater, and turf algae-associated communities were distinct while the coral mucus and tissue showed nearly identical ITS2 type profiles.
