I'd say because it interacts with critical infrastructure. Back in the day new houses had to get their wiring checked by the local power authority but deregulation and privitisation led to electricians signing off on their own work with predictable results.

My father-in-law retired at 55 and is 87 now. His early retirement made me realize I don't want to travel the same road.

Early retirement is a dream for many, but watching my husband's dad retire at 55 helped me see possible drawbacks and realize that it's not mine.

Most likely, yes. There is no blanket ban, and Australia has admitted many foreign leaders convicted of worse crimes than Trump.
And it changes. At one point Snoop Dogg was banned, now he's not.
OTOH thousands of Australians with criminal records have been granted visas to travel overseas.
