I think it's important to remember that most people's exposure to LLMs is basic. A YT short saying "AI can do everything" or asking the computer what a word means and it spat out a copy&paste from the dictionary.
To many it's magic, the same as PC shortcuts or medicine. And magic existing = future.

We feel this damaged relationship even over here in Germany. Having the Elongated Muskrat try to buy a party known for openly sending foreigners threats to their homes into the government last election cycle was not fun either.
