I was in a situation where there was no bargaining. My employer shopped for insurance and we got what we got. Mercifully he was a good boss that tried to find good insurance for us - and he paid all of it.
He had employees that were costing him $70K per year (kids). Insane.

Horrid? It’s so incredibly common, but it’s completely hidden from view. Even in my case, that cost was totally hidden from me. My previous employer paid the entire premium (I was incredibly lucky in that regard).
But that doesn’t change the cost. This stupid system just hides it.

My favorite part was saying that it might cost me 8-12% more in taxes. Would be super excited to trade my current situation for an extra 8-12% in taxes.
My current health insurance (which has all the flaws he’s afraid of) runs 38% of my salary.

So the thing that was definitely going to happen even with the shutdown, happened? The only thing that is surprising here is that people believe that extending the shutdown was going to avoid this.

Not only are regular people experiencing these things, we are already paying more than every other country on earth to do it.

My point is that it’s not controversial that a white man is drawing the same conclusion that a lot of women have also drawn. And it’s not worse because a white man said it.
It’s worse that a lot of white men are ACTING on that belief, but that’s not Tom.

Every woman I know in real life has to me that a woman won’t win, because she’s a woman. They tell me this because of their life experiences, and because they’ve watched two very qualified women lose to the dumbest and most incompetent man in the land.

You have to remember that behind all of these things, conservatives always assume that the goal is to “cheat”. Trans kids are trying to be trans to get an unfair athletic advantage. Get IEPs to get unfair academic advantage.

My friend is a professor and has been complaining about it for years (pre-COVID). I noticed it with my kids growing up where I used to be enraged that they were just “learning” by staring at PowerPoint slide decks.
