#JamesBarryDiary 6/10/1875 Rained a little last night but it made no perceptible improvements in the streams. Dark most all day. I was extremely busy about the mill and kiln. I ground 20 bushels of buckwheat and 55 bushels of oats. Annabella here still. I am going to have a frolic next week. Amen

#JamesBarryDiary 5/10/1875 Dark warm day; some sunshine and some little rain. Water still very low indeed. I only ground 50 bushel of Buckwheat, and I dried 2 grists of Oats. Jordan Ritchie and I did some planking to the dam and waste-way.

Nova Scotia - a province known for endless rainy days & many bountiful rivers & lakes - is into its 4th month of extreme drought. This is the French River, that provides Tatamagouche with water (or not). Climate crisis kicking in. But: let’s frack and clearcut anyway, says NS Premier Tim Houston.

A rocky and pebbly riverbed with almost no water in it, and in the middle of the gravelly empty middle, grass is growing. Some reddish and green shrubs are visible on the left of the photo.

#JamesBarryDiary 4/10/1875 Dark most of the day but warm. Threatening rain betimes, but did nothing of any consequence. Kiln and mill full. Water very low indeed. I ground 13 bushel of wheat and 8 of Buckwheat and dried 55 bushel of Oats, and did many more wonderful things. Annabella here still.

#JamesBarryDiary 3/10/1875 A most delightful day indeed; sunny and calm and nice, but very fall like. The leaves are falling fast. Alex'r McKenzie, teacher, went off to the Four Mile Brook for the night and from there in the morning to his school up Dalhousie Mountain, near Deacon Adamson's.

#JamesBarryDiary 2/10/1875 Somewhat variable: sometimes sunny and sometimes dribbling rain. I was very busy grinding – no drying, but the kiln is full of oats, and lots of buckwheat in the mill and some wheat also. Alex'r McKenzie, teacher, is here tonight. I was in the mill. Very little fiddling.
